Summer
In the summer time, we are in the heart of fishing paradise. In any direction you choose, you will find some of the best salmon, trout, northern pike fresh water fishing in Alaska. Just minutes away are deep sea charters or just an hour and a half away is Seward or Homer for ocean charters, kayaking or glacier viewing.
Fall
In fall, we are one of the most sought after destinations for silver salmon fishing and rainbow trout fly fishing. The Fall colors also attract many visitors from all over the world to watch and photograph the color changes along with the ushering in of winter. This is also a time when after Labor Day, the First week of September, the Tourist Season is officially over. This means fewer people everywhere, giving you more of an idea of what living in Alaska is all about.
Winter
Winter begins in late October and lasts until the middle of March. This is one of the most beautiful seasons in Alaska. With snow everywhere, you can enjoy cross country skiing (Nordic skiing) with groomed trails nearby, down hill sking an hour away in Homer or Girdwood, ice climbing, snow shoeing, ice fishing or just photography oportunities where ever you go on the Kenai Peninsula. Near by Mt. Redoubt, Mt. Illiamna and Mt. Spur are only about 50 air miles away. Scenic flights (weather permiting) are available daily to fly around the mountains across Cook Inlet. Winter time viewing and activities are truely one of Alaska's best kept secerets.
Spring
Spring brings break up. Break up is that time of year when the snow and ice begin to melt. The days get longer and longer each day. It's the time when people start coming out. The Snow Birds return to Alaska to get ready for summer time fun. For the Pinewood Inn, it means get the fishing rods ready. Late March and April is big time Rainbow fun on the Kenai River. When the ice is off the Kenai River, the big Rainbow are ready for dinner. The big Rainbow have been hibernating all winter under the thick ice in a simi dormate stage. As soon as the water begins to warm and ice melts, they are ready to eat. That means great spring fly fishing for some of the biggest Rainbow trout in Alaska on the Kenai Middle River. Don't miss out on this outdoor attraction.
